Please respond to the poll in the upper right hand corner.

For the workshop you will need to bring your Everyday Math resources, MCAS Pacing Guides, and a copy of standards for your grade level. In addition bring any assessment tools you are currently using to assess number sense, problem solving, and algebra and functions.

On the first day we will be conducting a pre assessment of your prior knowledge please go to http://faculty.pnc.edu/dpratt/msurvey1.htm to take the assessment.

Share how you are using the math kits. Where have you decided to store the kits? How helpful are you finding the math kits?

Workshop

On Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at P.N.C. in the technology building, room 134 please join Math Encounters in putting together the math/literacy kits for each of the MCAS schools. Mary Jane and I have done all the shopping with the lists you created and MCAS purchased the manipulatives for each of the books.

Talk about a math encounter - we had to estimate, problem solve, add, subtract, multiply and divide in order to purchase manipulatives for 12 books for 12 sites.

Please bring the lesson plans you created for the books(so far we have 4 and there are 12 books). Your colleagues are COUNTING on you. After the Math EnCOUNTER workshop you be able to take the kit back to your school and engage your students in many math encounters.

Counting on Lesson Plans

At our last seminar all of you created lesson plans for the Stuart Murphy books. We are COUNTING on you to get those plans to us so that we can put together the integrated math/literacy kits at our next seminar scheduled for Thursday,
February 5, 2009 5:00-8:00 p.m. at PNC in Tech 007. Looking forward to working with you in a few weeks. Please email lesson plans to djpratt@pnc.edu. I would like to thank the group that worked on BEEP,BEEP VROOM, VROOM for their lesson plan submission.

PNC's 3rd Annual Early Childhood Conference

EVERYDAY WONDERS is PNC's 3rd Annual Early Childhood Conference that will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009. We would like to invite you to participate in our conference either as a participant or as a presenter. A presentation that you could possibly focus on would be how you have implemented math enCOUNTers into your early childhood learning environments or how you integrate math and literacy. I have included the proposal form (which is due Nov. 15th) under resources. We hope to see you become a part of PNC's Early Childhood Conference.
